A Life Defined by the Horizon

I was born in New Zealand, where the ocean is more than just a view—it’s a way of life. My journey as an instructor began in Sydney, and since then, I’ve navigated and taught through Greece, Croatia, the UK, the Canary Islands, and Spain. The defining moment for me was crossing the Atlantic. There is a specific kind of humility that comes from being a thousand miles from the nearest land, dealing with a midnight squall or a broken engine. It taught me that sailing isn’t about the gold braid on a cap; it’s about composure, resourcefulness, and the quiet bond of a crew looking after one another when the horizon is empty.

I wanted to create an experience for people who, like me, are driven and curious. Sailing Kiwi is for those who want to blend a world-class holiday with the actual craft of sailing. Because I’m just as excited about a new adventure as you are, I act as a facilitator, bringing people together to get to know the global sailing community. We don't just "go for a ride"—we sit down with the charts, we plan our passages, and we learn by doing.

The Corporate Lens on the Water

I also come with a corporate background in consulting and executive advisory, where results come from structure, clear communication and shared momentum. I bring that same mindset on board.

My role is to create the right guardrails for safe learning, so you can push beyond your comfort zone, explore, experiment and be comfortable making mistakes, all with the right level of oversight.

In just a few days, we turn a group of individuals into a high performing team that feels like a family.

While formally my role is to be a skipper and take responsibility for the technical side and safety, I am very deliberate about creating the space for you to build confidence, enjoy the freedom of sailing, and practise leadership, communication and grow your skills on the water.

The Toolkit

Sailing is a lifelong study. Here is the experience I bring to every passage:

  • Instructional Expertise: I am a qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, able to teach from Competent Crew through to Yachtmaster level. I also deliver theory courses, along with Powerboat, VHF and Radar training.

  • The Logbook: Over 17,000 nautical miles logged across ocean deliveries, racing, and coastal instruction.

  • Under the Surface: As a passionate scuba & free diver, I’m always keen to explore what lies beneath the keel.
